After Agriculture College and National Forensic College, Goa will soon have a veterinary and fisheries college in the State, even as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that his government is committed to ensuring that no student will be denied educational opportunities because of their poor economic background.
Addressing the participants at the 6th Adivasi Vidhyarthi Sammelan at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Monday, the Chief Minister urged the youth to avail themselves of the various government schemes meant for the ST, SC, OBC, and economically weaker students, etc.
“My government is committed to ensuring that every youth gets an education, not just in Goa, but they can also avail themselves of financial assistance to pursue education in the country and abroad. We have already set up the National Forensic Science College in Goa. The Agriculture College has started functioning with 40 students. Now, the government will soon start veterinary colleges and fisheries colleges in the state,” he said.
In fact, the Chief Minister said that educational opportunities are available for the students of Goa in a big way, while making a fervent plea to the youth to avail themselves of the opportunities. “My government is committed to ensuring that no student should be left without an education because of their financial condition,” he asserted.
He added: “The student may belong to any caste or religion or hail from different strata of society, the government is committed to providing them education. Students from the ST community can get free education in engineering if they avail themselves of the schemes.”
The Chief Minister, however, made a fervent plea to the students to decide on their careers at the time of completing their SSC education. “You have to decide on your career at the initial stage and then avail yourselves of the various schemes to pursue the goal. Students from the ST community need not even go to the banks to get loans,” he added.
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, and Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar were amongst those present at the programme.
