Prison authorities yet to lodge FIR in assault case

A female police constable was reportedly assaulted by a female prisoner in Colvale Jail on Monday evening. However, the prison administration had not registered a complaint with the Colvale police in this matter till late at night.
According to sources, the prison administration does not have a female warden, and female police constables, female home guards and GHRDC security guards have been deployed in the Central Jail at Colvale.
Sources said a prisoner got into an argument with the police constable and the matter escalated into a fight, with the prisoner assaulting the police constable.
As soon as the Colvale police received information about the assault, a police team went to the prison to conduct an investigation. However, neither the prison administration nor the police constable had lodged a complaint with the police till late at night.
Sources added that there is currently a shortage of female wardens in Colvale Jail.
Two of the four female wardens have been promoted as Assistant Superintendents, while two others have retired.
The prison administration has not recruited female wardens for the past 20 years and male wardens since 2012.
There is currently a shortage of female and male wardens and head wardens in the prison. The duties of these staff are now being performed by police, home guards and security guards, informed the source.
