In a tragic incident, a woman identified as Saraswati Koliati (also known as Saraswati Talawar) passed away while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim after reportedly consuming poison.

The deceased, who had been on vacation in Goa, arrived in the State on August 23, accompanied by a man. The duo had been staying in a rented room near St Andrew’s Church in Vasco.

On September 2, Koliati complained of severe stomach pain and was initially taken to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Chicalim for treatment. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to GMC Bambolim the following day. While being treated, Koliati informed her companion that she had consumed poison on September 2 for reasons unknown.

Despite medical efforts, her condition worsened, and she passed away on September 4. The police have collected the medico-legal case (MLC) papers and belongings of the deceased from the hospital.

During their inquiry, it was revealed that Koliati was already married, though her family had yet to be contacted. The authorities have since sent a wireless message to her family through ISPW to notify them of her death.

The Vasco Police Station registered an unnatural death case on Thursday under Section 194 of the BNS Act, following the receipt of information from the Casualty Department of GMC. Vasco PSI Carey Fernandes initiated the investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak.
