As many as 21.79% of all Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the State are headed by women, while five MSMEs headed by women have been shut down in the last five years due to various reasons.
Stating this in a reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for MSME Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma said there are presently 27,201 MSMEs in the State, of which women head 5,928 MSMEs.
These 5,928 MSMEs comprise micro (5,821), small (99) and medium (8) enterprises, said the union minister.
He informed that women head 25,71,833 MSMEs across the country.
During the Covid pandemic, 3,057 MSMEs headed by women were shut down and these included five MSMEs from Goa, the minister added.
The State had registered 14,710 MSMEs in the last five years, generating employment for 62,195 people in these units, stated Verma in another reply.
He informed that the country has witnessed a large number of registrations under the MSME sector which has been generating employment and the Centre has been providing support to these MSMEs, the minister stated.
Though there has been a notable increase in the registrations of new MSMEs, entrepreneurs have lamented that the State government has not offered the required support to these industries.
A few years ago, the MSME Goa branch met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and appealed to him to resolve their issues.
Sawant has been stating that his focus is on such industries in his ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat-Swayampurna Goa’ campaign, to support the financial growth of people in Goa.
