Hundreds of female candidates aspiring to join the Home Guards have been appearing for verification of documents and height measurement process at the Goa Reserve Police Camp, as recruitment for 143 Home Guard volunteer posts commenced last month.
The Home Guards and Civil Defence Organization of Goa Police received an overwhelming response with 10,000 applications for the posts. The selection process, involving verification of original documents and height measurements also comprises mandatory submission of birth certificate, education qualification (minimum Class VIII passed as on April 2, 2024), 15 years of residence certificate, etc.
The verification process for female candidates started on November 29 and will conclude on December 12, while the selection tests for male candidates were held from November 19 to November 28.
Director General of Police Alok Kumar recently spoke about the vital role of Home Guards in policing, stating that 143 of the 270 vacant posts in the force are underway. He also hailed them as the "guardians of peace" for their selfless service and their contributions to ensuring the smooth functioning of society, especially during crisis.
Currently, over 1,200 Home Guards are deployed across Goa with the government already reserving 10 per cent of police constable posts for them.
Similar reservations are for excise guards, jail guards, firemen and forest guards, adhering to a 100-point roster system to fill these posts.
