For a change, it wasn’t men but women who created drunken chaos on the streets!

In yet another incident that has raised concerns among locals about law and order issues involving “outsiders”, two women, reportedly from a village in Maharashtra, created widespread disturbance in Colvale and later in Mapusa after allegedly consuming excessive alcohol.

According to Colvale police, the episode began when the two women were found sitting in the middle of the service road opposite the central jail in Colvale, openly drinking alcohol and obstructing traffic.

Witnesses reported that the women broke a bottle on the road, creating a nuisance and alarming passersby.

Fearing escalation, onlookers alerted the police and called for a 108 ambulance. Colvale police promptly responded and shifted the women to the North District Hospital at Mapusa for medical attention.

However, the trouble did not end there. Upon arrival at the hospital, one of the women allegedly manhandled hospital security staff, creating panic among patients and staff.

Meanwhile, the second woman, reportedly heavily intoxicated, passed out and had to be medically attended to.

The situation worsened when the conscious woman walked out of the hospital premises and once again sat in the middle of the busy road outside the hospital entrance, disrupting traffic movement on the road.

Mapusa police officials had a tough time controlling the woman, ensuring her safety and simultaneously managing traffic.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both women hailed from a village in Maharashtra and had been in Goa for some time.

Sources said they were neither tourists nor registered workers, raising concerns about the increasing number of unmonitored migrants contributing to public disorder incidents.

"This is becoming a frequent problem. Migrants from neighbouring states often arrive without proper documentation or employment and sometimes engage in activities that disturb public peace," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

Local residents have expressed their frustration over the growing trend of migrants involved in such disruptive behaviour.

"Goa has always been a peaceful place. But now we are seeing more and more outsiders coming here, behaving irresponsibly, drinking openly and creating problems for law-abiding citizens," said Rajan Mandrekar, a shopkeeper near the hospital.

While police have not confirmed whether formal charges have been filed against the two women, officials indicated that necessary legal action would be taken based on the medical and police reports.
