The world-class Colva beach on Wednesday witnessed activity apparently to make way for the water from the creek to flow into the Arabian Sea, especially during the monsoons.
The Colva beach was in the news during the last monsoon when the beach saw large-scale erosion of the beach after the creek waters, instead of flowing into the sea, changed course and headed towards the toilet block and the children’s play area.
When contacted, a senior Water Resources Department official informed that the WRD has got the contractor to carry out the work of removing the sand along the way, connecting the creek to the sea.
“The contractor has the sand removed from the area between the mouth of the creek to the sea to ensure as part of the maintenance,” the official said.
The senior WRD official pointed out that the department is moving a proposal to the government for the annual maintenance of the beach area between the creek and the sea to protect the beach from erosion as was witnessed last year.
