In a major gold heist reported in the commercial capital, a group of workers employed by a city-goldsmith ran away with melted gold worth around Rs 72 lakh.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when the goldsmith, Pritesh Lotlikar, a resident of Benaulim, aged 40 years, had entrusted the melted gold weighing around 959 grams to make gold ornaments at his work place at Comba.
In his complaint, the goldsmith claimed that the accused persons dishonestly misappropriated the gold weighing 959 grams, approximately worth Rs 72 lakh.
He has named three persons behind the misappropriation of the gold, all natives of West Bengal.
The police have provided the names of the accused persons as Suprokash Mondal, aged 29 years, Sanjoy Mondal, aged 22 years and Tapas Jana, aged 44 years.
An offence under section 316(1) read with section 3(5) of the BNS 2023 has been registered by the Margao police.
