World Braille Day celebrated with inspiring sessions & exhibitions

To commemorate World Braille Day, the College Library and the Book Club - Page_Turners organized an exhibition on 7th January 2025 in the College Library. The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Sridar K. Vani (Chief Guest and an alumnus), Fr. Anthony D’Silva (Administrator), Dr. Fr. Fredrick Rodrigues (Principal), staff and students of the college.

The exhibition highlighted library’s Braille collection, including books and maps, while also raising awareness about the history, significance, and functionality of Braille.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by the compere Divyeta Naik from FYBCom. An inspiring introduction to Louis Braille, the inventor of the Braille system, was given by Mr. Joseph Gonsalves from FYBA, he also highlighted the life and contributions of Louis Braille to the world. Following this, Sahil Awasthi from SYBCom demonstrated the importance of Braille and its application in empowering visually impaired individuals, leaving the audience captivated.

A special highlight of the day was the heartfelt talk by Sridar K. Vani, an ex-student of the college, who shared his journey of overcoming challenges as a visually impaired individual. His story of resilience and determination left a lasting impact on everyone present.

The event also featured an engaging demonstration of NV Access, a screen-reading software, by Pratiksha Malik, Librarian Grade 1. She provided a hands-on explanation of how the software supports visually impaired users in accessing digital resources effectively.

The Principal, Dr. Fr. Fredrick Rodrigues, addressed the gathering with an encouraging speech, emphasizing the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by the college librarian, Janessa M. D’Mello, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, participants, and organizing team for making the event a grand success.
