The Water Resources Department (WRD) has started the work of lifting away the algae that has invaded the Colva creek waters over the last few days.
While the WRD officials have moved a file to the government to sanction annual maintenance funds for the upkeep of the Colva creek from time to time, the department has deployed labourers to clean up the stagnant creek waters on the beach.
WRD Executive engineer, Gipson Rebello informed that pending sanction of the proposal for annual maintenance funds for the upkeep of the Colva creek, the department had deployed workers to clean up the algae from the stagnant water. “This is just a temporary measure to clean up the water body. Once the government sanctions the funds for the annual maintenance of the creek, labourers would be deployed at regular intervals to keep the creek water free from effluents and algae,” he added.
The Colva creek has been in the news for the last three days after the waters from the water body stagnated on the world class beach, creating an eyesore and a health hazard.
