The Youth Congress on Saturday staged a protest in the city against the Centre’s National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) policy and accused the central government of selling assets of the nation.
“Modi government is on the spree to sell assets of the nation to some of his favourite businessmen. The Congress will oppose this policy nationwide,” said Akhilesh Yadav, Goa incharge of Indian Youth Congress.
He said at present the policy is being opposed at the State-level and the protests will also be held at the district and block level.
President of Goa Youth Congress Varad Mardolkar said those assets which were created by successive Congress governments are now being sold one by one.
Mhardolkar said public sector units like BSNL, railways, airports, LIC are being sold by the government. “No one sells his own house in the name of bankruptcy”, said Mardolkar.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said national strategic assets cannot be privatised and said the electricity network is the blood of the nation’s development. “Privatising key sectors will lead to hiking of fares and rates,” said Kamat.
