Youth detained at Mopa airport with 6 live bullets

Accused did not have license to carry ammunation

A youth from Dehradun-Uttrakhand was detained at Manohar International Airport at Mopa, on Tuesday after he was found carrying 6 live rounds (ammunition) in his baggage without any valid arms licence.

In a complaint, an officer posted with the screening security and vigilance stated that Anshul Ghai (26) years was scheduled to travel from Mopa to Delhi, when security screening detected 6 live rounds (ammunition) in his baggage.

The accused could not produce any valid arms licence to carry and possess the rounds and also could not produce any permission from competent authority to carry the same in the aircraft.

The matter was reported to Mopa Police station and during enquiry, the accused stated that on September 7, he had travelled to Shirdi and the next day, he along with his friends went to meet his aunt, the widow of a colonel at Khandwa-Pune. Ghai stated that his aunt had given him a bag as a keepsake of his late uncle.

The youth later came to Goa and during screening the 6 live rounds were detected in the bag.

The details were reportedly corroborated by the aunt, who stated that the live rounds were about 20 years old.

Mopa Police registered an offence under Section 3 r/w 25 of Arms Act, 1959 and the accused was served a notice under Section 35 of BNSS. Further investigation is in progress by PI Mopa Narayan Chimulkar under the supervision of SDPO Pernem DySP Jivba Dalvi and SP North Akshat Kaushal IPS.
