Goa’s cultural heartbeat resonated with grandeur during Shiv Shahi, a spectacular theatrical tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Held at the Housing Board Ground in Porvorim, the mega play transported audiences to the 17th century, highlighting Shivaji Maharaj’s courage, vision, and relentless spirit.
Written, produced, and directed by Mahendra Mahadik, the play dazzled with stunning performances, a revolving stage, and a vivid retelling of Shivaji Maharaj’s battles. Featuring over 150 artists, real horses, bullock carts, a golden plough, and an 18-foot ship named Konkani, it brought history alive with cinematic intensity. A five-floor set, complete with a revolving tower and a 12-foot idol of Goddess Bhavani, served as a striking backdrop. The confrontation between Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan was a gripping highlight.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, whose department played a key role in organising the event, said, “Goa shares a profound historical and cultural connection with the Maratha Empire. Through Shiv Shahi, we celebrate Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy and Goa’s role in India’s historical narrative.”
