Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira has clarified that he had just made a general statement and do not mean any specific instance on the availability of drugs in the State.
Clarifying his stand after his statement made on the side lines of the Independence Day program at Margao on Thursday kicked up a row of sorts, the Minister said he only meant to say that drugs are available all over, not just in Goa, but all over the world. “Unfortunately, with due respect to the media, my statement was picked up which was spicy enough to create a sensation. When I addressed the students of Independence Day, I spoke of temptation of drugs. I advised the students that they should stay away from drugs since it would ruin their future.”
He added: Afterwards when a scribe posed me a question on Sunburn and the opposition to the festival by people fearing use of drugs, I said that drugs are available all over. It was a general statement. I even asked the reporter that the time has come we should all join the movement against drugs by cooperating with the police and telling the police of information on drugs.”
