1 killed, another injured in road mishap at Porvorim

 A 46-year-old pillion rider died while the rider was injured when their scooter and a truck collided in a mishap on the Panaji-Mapusa highway near Teen Building at Porvorim on Monday morning. The truck driver was later arrested in this connection.

According to Porvorim police, the mishap took place at about 9.10 am, when Hiralal Murgaonkar (55) was riding a scooter, with Vijaya Murgaonkar (46) of Chimbel on the pillion.

The tipper truck and the scooter were both proceeding from Panaji towards Mapusa. The scooter rider was on left side of the truck, when the truck collided with the scooter. Both riders were injured in the mishap.

After being alerted of the incident, Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab and a police team rushed to the site and shifted both injured riders to the GMC hospital at Bambolim. Vijaya Murgaonkar was declared dead a short while later.

The body was sent for an autopsy and was later handed over to the family for final rites.

The truck driver, Mohammad Afzal Ansari, a native of Hazaribagh-Jharkhand but residing at Ponda, was later arrested in this connection. Porvorim PSI Arun Shirodkar is conducting further investigation in the case.
