2 arrested for murder of worker at Cortalim poultry farm

Two persons have been arrested on charges of murdering a worker and seriously injuring another at a poultry farm in Cortalim.

According to police, the incident occurred at St Anthony’s Poultry Farm, Zambol-Cortalim on Thursday at around 12.30 pm, when two unidentified men, aged 29-30 years, wearing yellow and red T-shirts, entered the poultry farm and demanded free chicken.

When their request was denied, they attacked Anil Muthamajhi and Jihusaya Mandal with a knife. Anil (20) succumbed to his injuries, while Jihusaya Mandal (39) was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at GMC Hospital in Bambolim.

The crime was reported at Verna Police Station by Kuni Majhi, wife of the deceased, at 11.48 pm on the same day.

Taking immediate action, Verna police formed special teams and, with the help of technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, tracked down and arrested the two accused from a rented room in Davorlim, Margao, on Friday.

During interrogation, the two accused confessed to the crime and revealed that the attack was due to previous enmity with Jihusaya Mandal.

The accused, Santosh Indar Mallick (32) and Pradhan Nalika Mandal (35), both from Odisha, have been arrested by Verna Police Station under Sections 103(1) and 109 r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation was led by PI Melson Colaco of Verna Police Station, under the supervision of Vasco SDPO Gurudas Kadam and SP South Tikam Singh Verma.
