57.61 kgs of meat seized from Arpora shop

Veterinary officials raided a meat shop at Nagoa-Arpora on Sunday and seized 57.61 kgs of meat, after the shop was found to have been set up without permission from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.

Officials of the Veterinary Hospital in Calangute had received information about the sale of meat at the shop without permission. On Sunday, a veterinary officer Dr Charelette Fernandes raided the shop with the help of an Anjuna police team, while meat was being sold in the shop. During the raid, 57.61 kgs of meat and other organs were found in the shop. Authorities later disposed off the seized meat.

Acting on a complaint from Dr Fernandes, Anjuna police registered a case against three suspects in the shop, the manager, Mohammad Masood Khan (39) of Uttar Pradesh, Hasan Saab Bepari (46) of Belagavi, and Suban Bepari (34) of Belagavi. Further investigation is being conducted by Anjuna PSI Nitesh Shingadi.
