Colva Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes has said the Sewerage infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd and the PWD, Sewerage should conduct an audit of the underground sewage line before commissioning the 5MLD Covla STP.

She also said that SIDCGL and PWD officials should conduct an awareness drive in the village to get the households connect their premises to the underground sewage line.

The Colva Sarpanch told The Goan that the Panchayat is in receipt of a host of complaints from local residents over the underground line and the pumping stations. “In the interest of the village and to clear the doubts of the villagers about the line and the pumping stations, the concerned officials should conduct an audit of the underground line before the inauguration”, she said.

She further pointed out that the Colva panchayat has already issued a notice to the sewerage authorities to show cause why  the NOC issued for the construction of the pumping station on the Church road should not be revoked.

Asked to shed light on the application forms for sewerage connections, the Sarpanch informed that the authorities had in the recent past kept the sewage forms at the panchayat office for the public to apply for the connections. “The Panchayat had conducted an awareness by requesting the places of worship to make the announcements. I think the authorities should return back to the village again and explain the people why they should go for the sewerage connections”, she added.
