MARGAO: Ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, burglars successfully broke into the Punjab Sind shop in the heart of Margao, just 200 metres from the police station.
A few other businesses in Varca village have also been targeted. The burglars tried to break into a mobile phone shop in the same area but did not manage to steal anything.
At the Punjab Sind shop, the burglars took Rs 5,000 in cash, along with sweets and lassi. The incident has raised concerns about how the burglars were able to break in during the early hours.
The burglary is believed to have happened just after 3 am, with the thieves entering by bending the shop’s shutters.
In addition, the Colva police have reported thefts at two other establishments in Varca: a pharmacy and a meat shop. The thieves stole over Rs 1.60 lakh in total from these two businesses.
