Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão is scheduled to leave for Rome on Thursday night, to attend the funeral of late Pope Francis and to take part in the conclave to elect the next Pope.
This is for the first time in the 500-year-old history of the Archdiocese of Goa, that an archbishop of Goa is participating in the conclave to elect a successor to the late Pope Francis.
Incidentally, another cardinal of Goan origin – Cardinal Joseph Coutts, Archbishop Emeritus of Karachi Archdiocese – will be eligible to participate in the conclave, as he turns 80 on July 21.
