Unhappy that their demand to shut down the Goa Tourism Development Corporation counter in Collem has not been implemented by authorities, the jeep operators affiliated to the Dudhsagar Tour Operators Association have decided to start a chain hunger strike in Collem market from Saturday morning.
The jeep drivers took the decision, after their meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday did not arrive at any solution favouring them. The jeep operators decided to start a chain hunger strike from Saturday as the GTDC counter continues to be operational.
The jeep operators have been supported by Sanvordem BJP Mandal President Vilas Desai, former MP Vinay Tendulkar, former minister Deepak Pauskar and other activists.
The jeep operators are adamant about the decision not to start the season unless the counter opened by the GTDC is shut down. The chief minister has convened a number of meetings with the jeep operators, but the jeep operators have been adamant on their conditions.
Meanwhile on Friday evening, some jeep operators indicated their desire to start the tourist season by taking tourists to the Dudhsagar waterfalls from Saturday. If some jeep operators try to start the season, there will be a possibility of a rift between the jeep operators.
