Fake iPhone accessories worth Rs 1 cr seized in raid

In a major crackdown on counterfeit mobile accessories, the Crime Branch of Goa Police, in collaboration with officials from Apple Inc, conducted raids at three shops in the Mapusa municipal market and seized fake iPhone accessories worth approximately Rs 1 crore.

Acting on concrete intelligence inputs, the raid was carried out between 4 pm and 8 pm at Krishna Mobile Shop, Super Telecom Shop and Janvi Cover House.

A police team uncovered a large cache of counterfeit mobile accessories being sold as genuine Apple products.

During the operation, three individuals were apprehended for their involvement in the illegal trade.

The arrested accused were identified as Arjun Kumar, Karmi Bharti and Dashrath Puri all three from Rajasthan.

The seized counterfeit items included back panels, batteries, charging flex cables, flashlights, wireless charging flex units, cameras, mixed flex cables, back covers, earphones, power adaptors and data cables, all falsely marketed as authentic Apple accessories.

The illegal stock was confiscated under a panchanama.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered at the Crime Branch police station invoking Sections 51 and 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957.

PSI Jairam Kunkalkar is spearheading the investigation under the supervision of DySP Crime, Rajesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police, Rahul Gupta (IPS).
