The accused convicted in the 2020 Fatorda double murder case has been sentenced by the South Goa Sessions Court to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
In this case, the Fatorda Police had on February 2, 2020, registered a case of murder under section 302 of the IPC against accused Arjuna Kazidoni, aged 30 years, resident of Pequeno-Madel, Margao, for committing the brutal double murder of Bhimsi S Gasti, aged 30 years, resident of Khareband-Margao, and Mutanna alias Ravi Badiger, aged 18 years, resident of Gogal Housing Board, Fatorda, besides injuring one Sunil Sawant.
The accused was charged with murdering the duo by assaulting them with a large laterite stone and liquor bottles, striking them on their heads, causing their instant death on the spot. Then Fatorda Police Station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak, had registered the murder case and investigated the case before filing a charge sheet before the Sessions Court, Margao.
Public prosecutor Govind Goankar prosecuted the accused in the court of law. The trial of the case was held before the court of Judge Kshama Joshi, who on October 3 convicted the accused under section 302 of the IPC for murder and section 323 (simple injury).
