A 17-year-old girl from Goa died after falling off a moving train on the Konkan Railway route between Loliem and Karwar stations.

The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday when the girl and some others were travelling on a Margao-Mangalore train.

After crossing the Loliem KRC Tunnel, the train was running at full speed and crossed Goa, before entering the Majali forest area of Sadashivgad-Karnataka.

It is learnt that the girl was reportedly holding a mobile in her hand and was close to the edge of the open door of the train, when she accidentally fell off the train due to strong jerks of the fast moving train.

It is further reported that the girl was thrown a few metres away from the railway tracks.

It is learnt that both Karwar Police and KRC police were alerted of the incident and police teams reached the spot.

There was some initial confusion over the police jurisdiction of the site where the body was found.

The Railway Police has jurisdiction of incidents taking place within a certain distance from the railway tracks and the body was found some metres away from the tracks as the girl had fall off a fast moving train.

The Railway Police was initially reluctant to take possession of the body and wanted Karwar police to investigate, but later reportedly decided to take possession of the body.

The body was later handed over to the family, and the final rites were performed on Thursday evening, added sources.
