Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has re-floated tender for construction of Unity Mall at Chimbel in an area of 12,000 sq mtrs. The project is estimated to cost Rs 175.94 crore.
Earlier in August, the GTDC had issued tender for the project at a cost of Rs 124.7 crore.
The mall is expected to be completed within two years and will feature 36 shops showcasing products from each state and union territory, along with outdoor exhibition areas, a children’s play area, an amphitheatre, and conference rooms.
Funding for the project is expected to be provided by the Centre under the scheme for special assistance for capital investment, aimed at promoting Skill India, Make In India, and One District One Product initiatives.
The concept of the Unity Mall was first introduced by the Union finance minister during the Budget speech of 2023-24 to promote at least one product from each district of the country. In Goa, the State has identified cashew nuts in North and Feni for South Goa.
The mall aims to create a world-class environment that supports rural artisans, district products, and national integration.
