The heat wave-like situation has once again gripped Goa with Panaji recording 35.4°C on Wednesday -- 1.8 °C above normal, and temperatures across Goa expected to rise in the coming days. Mormugao recorded 34.2°C, also nearly a degree above normal while the overall heat index (feel like temperature) hovered close to a stifling 47°C.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa, the mercury has risen steadily since late February even though the summer season officially began in March.

“There has been a gradual rise in temperatures since the last week of February. By and large, this summer is trending above normal except for those few days this season when the temperature was within the normal temperature range,” IMD official Nahush Kulkarni told The Goan.

The IMD has further forecast a further rise in maximum temperatures by 1–2°C over the next three to four days, leaving little hope for short-term relief.

The State has been receiving very light to light rainfall at isolated locations; however, there has been no relief from the heat.
