The North Goa police have intensified their vigilance, closely monitoring the movements, associates and sources of income of 100 identified history-sheeters in the lead-up to the festive season.

The police assert that these proactive measures are crucial in curbing criminal activity and ensuring public safety during this period of heightened celebration. Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Akshat Kaushal stated that there are currently 100 identified history-sheeters in the district based on their previous criminal records.

He also mentioned that a fresh list of new history-sheeters will soon be compiled. “There are 100 history-sheeters in North Goa, identified based on their previous criminal background. A lot of emphasis is being placed on identifying their present sources of income, new modes of communication, and the company they are keeping. Based on this information, police stations are also updating their history sheets,” he said.

Amid this process, in the past seven days, about 85 of them have been thoroughly checked. At the same time, Duty Officers have been instructed to carry out surprise checks at their residences during the night hours, in a bid to monitor their activities and ensure compliance with the law closely.

“Enhanced surveillance has been mounted on all known criminals across the district. This measure aims to deter any potential criminal activity and enable swift action if necessary. Also, all police stations in the district have been directed to actively identify cases to create new history sheets. This will enable the police to keep track of emerging criminal elements and address potential threats early,” Kaushal said.

The district police also claimed they are coordinating with the District Collector to initiate externment proceedings against habitual offenders.
