PANAJI:
Over a week after two of 13 fishermen went missing off the Konkan coast following a collision between the Indian Navy's submarine and a trawler, their bodies have been found.
Spokesperson of the Indian Navy informed the media that a joint operation between the Indian Navy and ONGC on Nov 28, led to the recovery of the mortal remains of two crew missing.
The Fishing Vessel 'Marthoma' sank after the collision on Nov 21. While 11 of the 13 crew were rescued on the same day by Indian Navy ships, two others remained missing.
"The Indian Navy and Coast Guard jointly undertook a week-long search effort, which helped localise the fishing boat's wreckage on the sea bottom. The mortal remains of the two crew were recovered from the vicinity of the wreckage with the assistance of ONGC and are now being handed over to the authorities," reads the statement giving an update on the incident.
