MARGAO
Margao BJP leaders seemed to have no idea over Congress-turned-BJP MLA Digambar Kamat’s plan to field son Yogiraj in Margao in the future.
The local BJP leadership, however, seemed closely watching the developments in the city, with a section of the party leadership saying the party has enough good and capable candidates to contest the polls.
Margao BJP Mandal chief Rupesh Mahatme said neither the party has any idea of the entry of Yogiraj into electoral politics, nor has Kamat given any indications to that effect till date. “We have no idea at all whether or not Kamat has plans to bring in son in Margao. I have nothing to say,” Mahatme said.
Local city leaders inimical to the seven-time Margao MLA, however, pointed out in private that the BJP has enough leaders capable of contesting the election.
Sources, however, said the city leaders may not have any option than to follow the diktat of the party leadership in the event Kamat decides to hand over the baton to son in the future. “Despite the bitter relationship between Kamat and the city-BJP leaders since the time the Margao MLA had quit the BJP in 2005, we had no option than to welcome Kamat in the party fold in 2022. Similarly, we do not think the party city leaders will have any option in the event the party top leadership gives the go ahead signal to Kamat to hand over the baton to son,” conceded a city-based BJP leader.
