A 40-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving goods train on Platform 2 at the Curchorem railway station on Monday afternoon.
The event has shocked the local community and raised serious concerns regarding safety and the presence of railway police at the station.
The deceased, identified as Jayant Parmar, had been residing in Baagwada-Curchorem for many years. The motive behind Parmar’s suicide is not yet known.
There was however a delay of about two hours for the railway police to arrive at the scene of accident which raised serious concern in the locality.
Due to the absence of regular railway police at the Curchorem Railway Station, officers had to come from Vasco resulting in a delay in conducting the panchamama.
Local residents expressed concern over the lack of regular railway police presence at the Curchorem Railway Station.
Many locals have openly criticised the current security measures in place and are calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent future tragedies.
They have demanded the deputation of railway police at the Curchorem railway station to enhance the surveillance and responsiveness of law enforcement at the station to deter similar incidents in future.
