Mandovi bridge accident: Driver, car owner booked

PANAJI:

Panaji police booked Rohan Shah, a Nepali national in a multi-vehicle collision on the Old Mandovi Bridge yesterday morning. The accident left three scooter riders and pillion riders injured that further led to a major traffic jam in Porvorim and Panaji during peak hours.

According to preliminary reports, Shah was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and hence lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. This resulted in a head-on collision with oncoming traffic.

The car involved in the accident is owned by Babuso Kalangutkar, a resident of Chapora, who has also been booked by the police.

The police are however tight-lipped regarding the arrests of the two accused.

Goa continues to face a rise in drunk driving incidents involving tourists, many of which lead to serious injuries and fatalities. Despite strict laws and ongoing awareness campaigns, the problem persists, endangering both locals and visitors.
