Mapusa police solve luxury villa burglary, arrest notorious thief

Swift action by Mapusa Police has led to the arrest of a notorious history-sheeter in connection with a high-profile burglary at a luxury villa in Parra.

According to the complaint lodged by Hyderabad-based businessman Rakshit Sanjay Gupta, the incident occurred in the early hours of January 31 when unknown individuals forcibly gained entry into the ACACIA The Deck 4 BHK villa, where Gupta, his wife Nupur Gupta, and their family were staying.

The accused broke in through the balcony door and fled with a zip-lock pouch containing valuable items, including a pair of diamond solitaire earrings, a gold bracelet and cash amounting to Rs 10,000.

Multiple teams were formed to track down the perpetrators.

The Mapusa police investigative team employed human intelligence and advanced technical surveillance to apprehend the suspect.

The arrested individual, identified as Pundalik Laxman Chavan alias Lamani, (28), a resident of Nagoa and Cunchelim and originally from Hubli, Karnataka, has a history of involvement in multiple house theft cases across Goa and Karnataka.

During the investigation, the police recovered stolen property from Chavan, including the diamond solitaire earrings and Rs 8,000 in cash, collectively valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh.

The recovery of these items has confirmed his involvement in the crime.

A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 331 (4) and 305 (a) read with 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing under the supervision of PI Nikhil Palekar, Mapusa SDPO Sandesh Chodankar, and overall supervision of SP North Goa, Akshat Kaushal (IPS).
