MARGAO: In an interesting turn of events, young Sandeep Ram Naik has won the bye-election for Ward No II of Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat.
In a five-cornered contest, Sandeep defeated his closest rival, Yashwant Jaising Raikar, by 55 votes. Sandeep secured 197 votes, while Raikar came second with 142 votes. The other candidates in the fray were Berta Costa (48 votes), Carmina Carvalho (107 votes), and Mario Camotim (35 votes).
After the results were announced, Goa Youth Congress working president Mahesh Nadar told the media that BJP MLA Sankalp Amonkar had campaigned for Raikar. He added that the voters of Ward No II had given a strong response to the BJP MLA.
