Patients forced to wait for weeks to undergo blood tests

When Health Minister Vishwajit Rane paid a surprise visit to the South Goa district hospital, he announced plans to beef up the blood testing laboratory with new gadgets on the lines of the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

For, patients are literally forced to wait for days and weeks before they are called for testing of blood samples at the district hospital.

A patient told The Goan that his wife has been given a date on October 14 to come for blood testing. “I and my wife had gone to the hospital over a week ago. The doctors had recommended blood testing. When I went to the section, I have been told to come on October 14 for blood testing. I really do not know why it takes so much time for the testing of blood samples”, he said.

Another patient pointed out that blood testing ought to be quick since it helps the doctors to start the diagnosis. “But one is given long dates for the blood testing, any patient may be left with no option than to go the private labs for blood testing”, he added.

When this situation was brought to the notice of the district hospital Medical Superintendent to shed light on the long dates give to the patients for blood sample testing, he said he would ascertain the situation. “We will have to first find out the nature of blood tests recommended by the doctors. The appointment for blood sample testing is given as per the nature of the tests”, he added.
