A woman from Ponda has been duped to the tune of Rs 74,500 after clicking a link sent by the scammers.
Ponda police stated that Sajitha Pulikkal of Prabhunagar-Ponda complained that she had received calls from two mobile numbers on her mobile on December 13, 2024 sometime between 6.23 pm and 8.53 pm.
The caller claimed to be an employee of a courier company and that a courier had arrived in the name of Sajitha and a link was sent to download the application form to receive the parcel.
Accordingly, Pulikkal clicked on the link sent to her and downloaded an application. Later, she was asked by the caller to send Rs 10 as stamp duty charge along with her address.
As soon as the woman followed the caller’s instructions, she received a message that Rs 74,500 had been deducted from her bank account.
The victim later filed a complaint on the NCRP online portal. Ponda police registered a complaint against unknown persons under Section 318 (3) of the IPC and Section 66-D of the IT Act, 2000. Inspector Vijaynath Kavlekar is investigating the matter.
