Smart City work returns to haunt motorists in Panaji

PANAJI

Contractors and workers recommenced digging trenches on roads in some locations of the city to resume Smart City-related projects and complete residual work that had been abruptly stopped at the onset of the monsoon in June.

The digging carried out in certain locations close to four-arm and T-junction roads in the city was the cause of traffic disruption and logjams.

One such junction was the roundabout near Caculo Island in St Inez, where a deep one-metre trench was dug on Friday.

Excavators were seen moving around in the city at several locations.

Supervisors at one of the sites told The Goan that this is part of the residual work that was incomplete when work was halted because of the monsoon.

They said the connectivity of the new sewerage system’s chambers is being worked on.

In other places, workers were seen restarting the development of footpaths where the existing ones were being dug and prepared for laying interlocking tiles.
