In a significant development for one of Goa's largest Comunidade bodies, the Managing Committee of the Comunidade of Margao for 2025-2028 has been elected unopposed on Sunday.
That’s not all. The election marks a notable achievement for the duo of Savio Correia and Celestino Noronha. After scoring a hat-trick of sorts by winning the posts of president and attorney for the posts of Aquem, Dicarpale, and Davorlim comunidades, the duo have now secured their fourth Comunidade Committee position this year by winning the election for the Margao Comunidade.
The election proceedings for the Margao Comunidade, which saw a large turnout of over 100 members, were conducted under the supervision of Rohan Naik (Awal Karkun), assisted by Varsha Naik (Talathi) and Amaro Afonso (Escrivão).
Sávio Joaquim Filipe Correia has been elected as President, while Celestino A B de Noronha and Jesus Gomes will serve as Attorney and Treasurer respectively. The substitute positions will be held by Gino de Piedade Collaco (President), Franz Schubert Cotta (Attorney), and Joao Bush Miranda (Treasurer).
Speaking to the media after the election, Savio Correia said the Margao Comunidade is one of the largest, if not the largest, Comunidade bodies, with 26,000 shareholders and around 1,500 members.
“It is indeed a matter of pride that this is the second consecutive term and the fifth overall term that the members have reposed their faith in me and the managing committee,” Correia told the media after the election.
The Comunidade election season in South Goa will conclude next Sunday with four remaining polls scheduled in Salcete and Sanguem talukas. The last phase of elections will be held in Verna and Gandaulim (Salcete taluka), and Cavrem and Cusmona (Sanguem taluka).
