Hospital sources claim that ICU, ITU units have been put in place

With the South Goa district hospital being designated as a full-fledged Covid hospital, the hospital will soon play host to critical care units, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) in the hospital.
Around 60 patients are presently undergoing treatment at the South Goa district hospital, with those in need of critical care being shifted to the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim.
Sources in the district hospital informed that the ICU and ITU units have been put in place and may be opened for the critical patients in a day or two. “Both the ICU and ITU will have around 16 beds which will take care of the patients in need of critical care,” sources said.
The hospital has already started the dialysis facility for the Covid co-morbid patients, who are diabetic patients.
In fact, officials in the know informed that it’s now a month since the dialysis facility was commissioned in the district hospital after the same was designated as a Covid hospital.
Though the admission of Covid positive patients in the South district hospital is hovering around the 60-70 figure mark, doctors and paramedics manning the hospital in private hoped and prayed there’s no massive transmission of the coronavirus after the New Year celebrations.
“Right now, the situation is manageable with the admission rate pegged in the region of 60-70 patients. We only hope the virus does not spread in the community again post New Year celebrations,” remarked an official in the know.
The South Goa district hospital has a capacity to accommodate around 350 patients at a time, with a provision to upgrade the facility to 500 beds.
