St Cruz panch and former deputy sarpanch Domnic Pereira has petitioned the SAG Executive Director to change the village name given to the two stadiums – the Athletics Stadium and Shyamaprasad Mukherjee stadium – in the jurisdiction of Santa Cruz village.
Speaking to reporters, Pereira said that over the years grave injustice has been done to the people of Santa Cruz as despite both stadiums located within the village are given village names of neighbouring villages.
“While the Athletics Stadium is given address of Bambolim, the Shyamaprasad Mukherjee stadium is given address of Taleigao. This is nothing but injustice to the people of Santa Cruz,” said Pereira.
“In my petition, I have requested that corrections be made in the address of both the stadiums by changing it to Santa Cruz,” Pereira said.
To a question, Pereira said that he would now write to the St Cruz MLA Rudolfo Fernandes as well as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Sports Minister Govind Gaude seeking their intervention.
