In a setback for the police, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panaji has rejected the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT-Land Grab) application seeking custodial interrogation of Suleman Siddiqui  Khan, a "hardened criminal" accused involved in land grab cases.

The SIT sought to resume interrogation as Suleman escaped from its custody on December 13, 2024. The Goa Police tracked him to Kerala within nine days of the offense and brought him back to Goa followed by his formal arrest. Subsequently, he was remanded to police custody in connection with the escape case registered at Old Goa Police Station before being sent to judicial custody.

The SIT had indicated plans to seek his custody for interrogation in land grab cases through a court order. The SIT is likely to challenge the JMFC’s decision.
