Two arrested for animal cruelty in Valpoi

Two individuals have been arrested by the Valpoi police for animal cruelty after they were caught transporting pigs in unhygienic conditions.  According to SDPO Bicholim Jivba Dalvi, the Keri Checkpost staff intercepted a suspicious vehicle carrying pigs. A complaint was lodged against the accused, Jeevan Shipri, a resident of Belagavi and Sagar M Jadhav, a resident of Dharwad. The accused were found transporting 53 pigs—23 in a Bolero pickup and 30 in a TATA rickshaw). The pigs were confined to the vehicles in unhygienic conditions without proper documentation from the relevant authorities, thus subjecting the animals to cruelty. An FIR was filed under Section 325 of the BNS, along with sections 11(1)(a), 11(1)(e), 11(1)(d), 11(1)(h), and 11(1)(k) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Sections 96, 97, and 98 of the Transport of Animal Rules 2001.
