The manager of 9 Bar, a popular nightclub in Vagator, has been booked by Anjuna Police on charges of violating noise pollution regulations after it was found that the club played loud music beyond the permissible decibel limit.

The incident occurred on the night of January 18-19, when a noise level of 65.09 decibels was recorded at the venue.

The reading was detected between 10 pm on January 18 and 6 am on January 19, exceeding the legal limit and causing noise pollution in the surrounding locality.

The complaint was filed by PSI Navneet Goltekar attached to Anjuna Police Station and based on the real-time sound level meter data from the club, the authorities determined that the music played at the club violated the prescribed noise levels.

An FIR was registered under Section 5 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. The case is currently under investigation by Mapusa SDPO Sandesh Chodankar.

The police action comes in response to growing concerns about noise pollution in coastal areas, especially during peak tourist season.

The ongoing hearing of a contempt petition regarding noise pollution in the Bombay High Court at Goa is also causing concern among the authorities.

The authorities are taking strict measures to enforce noise regulations and ensure that public disturbances are minimised.
