In a new development, Vasco police registered an additional offence on Thursday against Uma Patil, a resident of Baina, for allegedly cheating a second woman out of Rs. 1.7 lakh on the false promise of securing a government job.

This comes just a day after Patil and her son, Shubham Patil, were arrested for allegedly defrauding another woman from Ribandar out of Rs. 6 lakh under similar pretences.

The latest complaint was filed by Kenchavva Ragunath Madar, also a resident of Baina, Vasco, who reported that between August 19 and December 31, 2016, Uma Patil allegedly induced her to pay Rs. 1.7 lakh with the assurance of securing a government job as a peon in the Navy for her brother-in-law. However, after receiving the payment, Patil allegedly failed to provide the promised job and did not return the funds.

Vasco police have registered the case under Section 420 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation is currently being led by PSI Prisley Carvalho of Vasco Police Station, under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.

The initial arrest of Uma Patil and her son, Shubham Patil, was made on Wednesday following a complaint from a Ribandar resident, Rashmi Vinod Chopdekar. Chopdekar alleged that the Patils cheated her out of Rs. 6 lakh with a false promise of securing a position for her son as a Police Constable in the Goa Police Department.

The police are now investigating whether there could be additional victims involved in similar job fraud schemes by the accused.
