MARGAO
South Goa Member of Parliament Captain Viriato Fernandes has demanded UNESCO cultural and heritage inscription for Tiatr.
While speaking in Parliament during zero hour, he urged the Ministry of Culture to set up a task force in collaboration with the Government of Goa and members of the Tiatr community to facilitate UNESCO inscription for Tiatr.
He further placed four demands: grants, scholarships, pensions, and other benefits to the Tiatr community; to engage with the Goan diaspora to take Tiatr across the globe; to encourage national and international research, academic collaborations, and digital archiving of Tiatr performances to preserve its historical, artistic, and socio-cultural significance.
He also called for the development and implementation of a policy framework to support artists, playwrights, musicians, and support staff involved in Tiatr through grants, scholarships, and heritage promotion programmes, including pensions.
