Aldona MLA, Carlos Alvares Ferreira accused the State government of "favouring a private entity" even as he vowed to challenge before the High Court the circular which is directing schools to open accounts with private banker Axis Bank, to route the salary grant.

In a video statement, Alvares Ferreira, said: "The decision smacks of nepotism. Similar decision was taken in Maharashtra. It is challenged before the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court where it has been revealed that the Deputy CM's wife is a Vice-President at the Azis Bank."

"I will serve a notice to Zingde on Wednesday. The rules under the Goa Education Act clearly state that the salary grants are to be routed through government banks," Alvares-Ferreira said, adding that he will move the High Court on behalf of thge institutions if he does not get a satisfactory response.

Alvares-Ferreira also questioned the choice of Axis Bank which he said hardly had any branches in backward areas and the villages.

"In the whole of my Aldona constituency there is not a single Axis Bank branch. Where will the teachers go in case there are some glitches in their bank accounts," Alvares-Ferreira asked.
