Promoting foreign languages at Industrial Training Institutes level also disappeared in the presentation release late night. The previous speech mentioned about rolling out a “Tourist Ambassador Course” at its ITIs to cater to the diverse influx of international tourists and boost local job opportunities.

The move was ironically in contrast with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 under which the foreign language option in high schools is being phased out.

The new initiative, NITI Aayog precious speech copy stated, would equip students with skills in Russian, Portuguese, French and German in a bid to bridge the language gap for non-English speaking tourists.

“In order to cater to the needs of the international tourists and generate employment opportunities among the youth, the government is in the process of implementing the “Tourist Ambassador Course” at Government ITIs to facilitate tourists arriving to Goa from non-English speaking countries to Goa. Under this initiative, linguistic training in four foreign languages such as Russian, Portuguese, French and German will be imparted,” he said.

As the NEP is implemented in Class IX this academic year, foreign languages will exit schools. However this year, the government has given relaxation for foreign languages like French, Portuguese, German and Arabic for those students who opted for it in Class VIII.
