CANACONA
Hundreds of people thronged the Chaudi church as the annual feast of St Theresa de Jesus was celebrated with great pomp and fervour.
Delivering his homily Fr Leo Fernandes, the main celebrant at the feast Mass, called on the faithful to obediently seek God’s forgiveness while praying for the almighty’s grace.
The feast mass was co-celebrated by Chaudi church parish priest Fr Isidore Dias and assistant priest Fr Roney Fernandes amongst the other co-celebrants.
Earlier on the feast day, three masses were held at 5.30, 7.00 and 8.30, while the feast mass was held at 10 am.
Two Konkani dramas in aid of the church will be held one (Porot Mogan Podd by Lawry) later in the night and
another (Raza Jevta Kombo Choita by Selvy) on Monday evening.
Incidentally, Canacona police along with the personnel from traffic cell made elaborate arrangements during the procession after the feast mass. They regulated traffic throughout the day alongside the busy Chaudi street, which is also part of NH-66 road.
This year, the highway traffic on the Chaudi road was minimized following the commissioning of Char-Rasta to Maxem sea-link highway section.
The feast fair was seen from Nagarcem to the old bus stand. A furniture fair was arranged at Mallikarjun grounds opposite Deputy Collector’s office complex.
