An off-road adventure through a non-motorable road proved costly where a 18-year-old youth died, while three were injured after their jeep fell from 40 meter height in Saleli waterfall at Saleli-Valpoi on Sunday afternoon.
VALPOIr rValpoi PI Deepak Pednekar informed that some youth from Pernem had gone for a picnic at Saleli waterfall in their jeep (GA-11 A8015). rAs there was strict police checking on the main road, the youth decided to take their jeep through rnon-motorable road just to avoid the cops. rWhile traveling on a non-motorable road, the driver of the jeep didn’t get the judgment of the left side of the road and due to which the jeep slipped and fell directly into the rocky surface of waterfall from the height of 40 meters, he added. rOne occupant Anush Barde (18) from Mandrem who is nephew of Mandrem sarpanch Santosh Barde crushed under the jeep and died on the spot, while other occupants Rajat Harmalkar (23), Amit Madkar (28), Kishore Parsekar (40) all from Mandrem suffered grievous injuries. rThey were first moved to Sankhali CHC and later they were shifted to GMC hospital at Bambolim for further medical treatment. rThe condition of injured persons is serious, informed PI Pednekar. rThe villagers and other occupants of the jeep helped injured person to shift them to hospital. rBicholim Dy’SP Ramesh Gaonkar visited the site and took stock of the situation.
