Jennifer visits Wadem, interacts with Selaulim evacuees on issues

Reviews ongoing work to identify vacant plots of land

 A dayafter resurvey operations began at the Wadem rehabilitation site to identifyvacant plots of land, Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate on Friday visitedWadem village to understand the problems faced by the Selaulim evacuees and toreview the progress of ongoing work.

Monserrate was accompanied by Sanguem MLAPrasad Gaonkar, Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude, Sanguem Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkarand WRD officials.

During her visit to the rehabilitation site,Monserrate inspected the ongoing resurvey operations and also visited theBhandara at Wadem, which serves as a source of agricultural water supply to thevillagers.

She also gave a patient hearing to adelegation of Selaulim evacuees who met her at the site and assured to solve theirproblems, which are within her purview, in the next 3-4 months.

On completion of the resurvey operations, thevacant plots in the village will be identified and will be allotted to 72families who are yet to be provided with housing and agriculture plots, despitehaving sacrificed their ancestral land to pave way for the Selaulim Dam.

The delegation thanked the minister for takingup their issue seriously.

“For 35 long years, we have been struggling toget our issues solved, but authorities had failed to resolve our grievances,”said Chandan Unandkar.

The minister also assured to solve the issueof ownership rights of the agriculture and housing plots allotted to evacueesat the time of their displacement.

On her visit to the rehabilitation site at Wadem,Monserrate also visited the Selaulim Dam and had a meeting with WRD officialsat the ID Rest House at Pajimol-Sanguem, where she studied the site plan of theSelaulim Dam and the rehabilitation area, after being briefed by officials.

Going by the pace of ongoing developments,Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, who has been following the issue since his electionas MLA, was optimistic of getting the problems faced by Selaulim evacueesresolved in the next 3-4 months.
