About a fortnight ago, it was reported that Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) would soon be taking over the running of private buses in Goa by hiring their buses.
The news is a welcome step by the govt to revamp the primitive public transport system in Goa, the likes of which are not seen anywhere in the country or for that matter in today’s civilized society of the world.
If and when implemented, it is bound to bring cheer and relief to the common man, who is to a large extent dependent on these buses and operators, who run their buses according to their whims and fancies.
Buses are packed to suffocation, no tickets are issued, and passengers are often overcharged and treated rudely.
It has now come to light that the deal has hit a road block because of disagreement in the hiring rates which are found to be unacceptable to private bus operators.
It is hoped that the matter is settled amicably and the switchover to KTC will soon become a reality, so that people will be able to travel comfortably and without being overcharged.
